Antique Hand Coloured Madagascan Sunset Moth Engraving by Jardine c1830A beautifully detailed antique engraving of the Madagascan sunset moth, drawn from Sir William Jardine's celebrated Naturalist's Library and engraved by William Lizars in Edinburgh around 1830. Lizars worked in steel rather than copper, which let him capture the fine venation and scalework of the wings with remarkable precision, and each plate was then finished by hand in watercolour.
