Menai Strait Lobster, Gyotaku Printed and Wet Mounted.This lobster was caught in a pot by a local fisherman here in North Wales. It was caught in the Menai Strait. The lobster is such a great subject for a coastal artist like myself. Working with local marine species is always my preferred way of working. Lobster are a challenge to print as they are so 3 dimensional. Its very tricky printing the legs and their antenna. This lobster is printed on Chinese mulberry paper measuring 69. 5x34cm. I’ve used some gold ink so it has a touch of shimmer

My newer prints all come with a certificate to show they are authentic and they have the date the print was made and where the specimen came from

Unlike many fellow Gyotaku artists

the specimen has fresh ink applied and the pressing is done gently by hand

then a second sheet of paper is pressed against the back of the print and the two sheet are left to day and bond overnight

We walk our dogs past the Menai Strait everyday
