Menai Strait Lobster, Gyotaku Printed in Red ink.This lobster was caught in a pot by a local fisherman here in North Wales. It was caught in the Menai Stait. Lobster are a challenge to print as they are so 3 dimensional. Its very tricky printing the legs and their antenna. This lobster is printed on handmade Thai mulberry paper measuring 70X50CMcm. Ive used a high quality screen printing ink that is both light fast and permanent. Each print I make is unique as I apply fresh ink before each print is

The paper is Chinese Xuan Paper and measures 70cm x 35cm

The print is made using the traditional methods and is wet mounted using the uruachi technique which uses a simple water and flour paste that I make myself

We took some family over to Aberffraw for a beautiful walk around the headland

The print measures 34cm by 16cm and will be shipped flat and wrapped in acid free tissue paper

The anchovy is used as a bait fish for catching sea bass

I do this using the authentic Japanese method of Urauchi

The print is supplied unmounted and measures approx 35cm x 70cm

the truth is that it’s more cost-effective to work on a standard size sheet of paper

5cm and has been mounted using the authentic Japanese wet mounting technique which uses a simple flour and water paste and requires a period of around 24 hours to dry and stretch

I then take a glue I make myself from flour and water and paste the back of the print
