Japanese Blue and White Floral PlateA Japanese blue and white plate in transfer printed ceramic. The well is decorated with flowering peony and chrysanthemum, a small bird in flight, and trailing grasses, framed by a banded geometric border of stylised blossoms. A brass disc plate hanger is already fitted to the reverse. The decoration follows the export tradition of Japanese blue and white ware produced for Western tables and walls in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
