Pair of French Sphinx on Tortoise CandlesticksA pair of pressed glass candlesticks in the form of a sphinx riding a tortoise, made by the French glassworks Portieux Vallerysthal. Portieux Vallerysthal produced this sphinx and tortoise pattern in 1908, one of the rarer figural designs in their catalogue. The sphinx's scaled tail curls round to form a handle, and the candle cup above is moulded with a fine fish scale pattern. Condition: Very good. Dimensions: 10. 5 cm wide x 10. 5 cm high x 14 cm
