Blue Willow Transferware Platter - J. & M.P. Bell & Co., Glasgow, c.1855–1880A large oval serving platter in the enduring Blue Willow pattern, produced by J. & M. P. Bell & Co. of Glasgow, Scotland one of the more respected Scottish pottery manufacturers of the Victorian era. The transfer print is crisp and well defined, depicting the familiar Willow scene: pagodas, a willow tree, the three figures on the bridge, a boat on the water, and two birds in flight above all framed by the characteristic geometric and scrolling border.

Condition: Some fading from use and age

requiring no batting and created through careful folding and stitching

Flow blue earthenware was produced by deliberately introducing volatile compounds into the kiln atmosphere

The brass edging carries an unpolished patina throughout

We have replaced the modern handles that came with the piece
