Menai Strait Pollock GyotakuWe walk our dog past the Menai Strait everyday. Rob, who's a keen fisherman and lives on the waterfront, knows I print. He ran out after me one day with a small bag containing this pollock. Pollock are plentiful in the local water and they are a member of the Cod family. So it has three fins across the top and two on the bottom. These are quite fleshy compared to a bass or bream, which makes them quite tricky to print from. They retract much faster

Personally I have these fish down as the punk rockers of the water with their dorsal fin looking like a mohican

This print measures 20x20cm and is on Chinese Mulberry paper and has been mounted using the authentic Japanese wet mounting technique which uses a simple flour and water paste and requires a period of around 24 hours to dry and stretch

There are 3 Sea Bass designs and 2 lobster

After printing

So the wet mounting is to flatten the print

I've taken a print from each side of the bass head

I'm always saying that each specimen presents it's own challenges and this is true of Tuna too

Here I have used a hand made Japanese Mulberry paper and the octopus is off set to one side

This bass is printed on Thai mulberry paper measuring 69
